National Park Service – Design-Build, Restoration and Rehabilitation of the Overlook Pavilion at General Grant National Monument, New York City, NY
The COASTAL Project Team embarked on a transformative journey to restore and enhance the Overlook Pavilion, a key historical structure within the General Grant National Monument. Our mission was to preserve the architectural integrity of this 2,500 square foot landmark while introducing modern utilities and amenities to serve future generations.
Our comprehensive restoration efforts included the installation of new electrical, water, and sewer systems that were seamlessly integrated into New York City’s existing utilities. The project also focused on improving the site with new paving, and the installation of energy-efficient lighting, plumbing, and heating systems. A critical aspect of our work was applying thorough waterproofing techniques to protect the pavilion’s interior spaces from water damage.
The renovation process involved a complete overhaul of the interior. We removed all existing structures to make way for new framing, drywall, paint, and flooring. Our team also addressed mold issues, installed state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and ensured the pavilion was accessible to everyone by meeting ADA compliance standards. Security enhancements were added to safeguard the site, alongside new interior designs to support an educational visitor center, office spaces, and restroom facilities.
Through careful planning and execution, we ensured the Overlook Pavilion continued to stand as a testament to history, education, and community engagement at the General Grant National Monument.
