USACE Fort Worth District – Design Build Calexico Fence Replacement 2.25 Miles, FC-2 All Weather Road, 60’ Bridge, Fiber Install, Calexico, CA
COASTAL successfully completed a comprehensive infrastructure enhancement project in Calexico, California, for the USACE Fort Worth District. This project involved the construction of 2.25 miles of new P-3 Bollard Wall, standing 30 feet tall, to improve security and operations adjacent to the Calexico Land Port of Entry (LPOE).
Key components of this project included the installation of a monument gate and a repatriation gate at the LPOE, facilitating better management and processing at the border. To prepare the site for the new fence, our team excavated approximately 37,120 cubic yards of material, ensuring the soil was conditioned and ready for construction.
In addition, we designed and built a nearly 2 mile FC-2 all-weather road alongside the border fence. The new road design features improved drainage and a retention area, enhancing access and sustainability.
A significant technological upgrade was also part of this project, with the installation of a newly designed fiber optic detection system cable running the length of the fence. This system was directionally drilled under the New River to connect with the LPOE, employing specialized tools and materials for a seamless installation.
COASTAL maintained a stringent project schedule while encountering 30 differing site conditions. COASTAL accelerated to a 24/7 work schedule to mitigate these conditions and maintain the schedule.
This project not only strengthens the infrastructure at the Calexico border, but also incorporates advanced technology to support the security and operational efficiency of the LPOE. With careful planning and execution, COASTAL delivered a project that enhances safety, access, and technology at the border.
